The Annual Elyria Apple Festival - This Weekend!

Summer may be winding down, but the Apple Festival is winding up for three days of food, fun, and festivities September 18, 19 and 20 in and around beautiful Ely Square in downtown Elyria.  Please bring your family and friends and join the City of Elyria, Elyria City Council and the Apple Festival Committee as we share an action-packed autumn weekend.

Whether your interests are concession grazing or craft shopping, classic car gazing or cornhole playing, 5K racing or apple pie eating, Princess Pageant watching or tapping your feet to three days of live entertainment by some of the area’s most popular entertainers -  the 35th Annual Elyria Apple Festival has something for everyone.

The weekend kicks off Friday at 11am with a live broadcast by WOBL Radio, followed by performances by the Elyria High School and Church of the Open Door marching bands.  And live entertainment follows all day until 8:30pm on the square and behind the courthouse.

Saturday features many of the traditional events like the apple pie judging, apple bobbing and pie eating contests; the Princess Pageant; the Corn Hole Tournament behind City Hall, and live entertainment and dance team performances in the square and behind the courthouse.

Sunday will feature an antique, classic and special interest Car Show; a 5K Run and Fun Walk featuring an Elyria 1996 Olympic gold medalist; a live show by WIXY 1260; presentation of art awards; and more entertainment all day right up until the closing at 5:00pm.  Please take the time to look through this publication for more details about these activities and other exciting events.

And don’t forget while you’re downtown to also visit the new Elyria Arts Council and the newly renovated East Falls Observation Deck.  You’ll see even more improvements with the newly replaced Middle Avenue and a refreshed Cascade Park thanks to the City’s partnership with the Lorain County MetroParks.  And even more positive changes are coming to Downtown, Midway Mall and Cleveland Street areas soon thanks to new investors and a newly adopted redevelopment plan that over 180 Elyrians helped create.

So despite some challenges, there is much to celebrate in Elyria.  Please join us for the Apple Festival and for other year-round events that can be viewed at www.cityofelyria.org.  Sincere appreciation is extended to Apple Festival Coordinator Linda Brown, Century Club contributors, vendors, sponsors, volunteers, patrons and the Elyria Parks and Recreation Department.  Working together, we are all making Elyria Ohio’s community of opportunity!
