Please join the Mayor, her senior staff and department heads for a casual evening of information designed to inform and provide the public with an opportunity to ask questions and share thoughts about how working together, we can move Elyria forward. Light refreshments will be provided.


Please mark your calendars for additional Community Conversations on September 22 at South Park Recreation Center, and December 15 at East Park Recreation Center. All events will run from 7:00 – 8:30pm.


While reservations are not required, it would help us plan for seating and refreshments if you would please call the Mayor’s Office to confirm your attendance at 326-1402.


And don't forget Morning Coffee with the Mayor at Midway Mall,  held the last Thursday of each month from 9:00am-10:00am in the Midway Mall food court.  MAYOR’S NIGHT IN also continues in Elyria City Hall, now on the first Monday of every month, from 5:30-6:30pm in the Third Floor Conference room of Elyria City Hall (Please note: The July meeting of Mayor's Night In will be held Tuesday, July 5th, 2016 to accommodate Independence Day).

ELYRIA READIES FOR THE WINDSTREAM GREAT AMERICAN PICNIC AND FIREWORKS SHOW

Elyria will be rocking on Thursday evening June 30 (rain date Friday July 1) at West Park, 1200 Foster Avenue, with a star spangled spectacular evening of live bands, family games, festive food, and the Windstream Great American Picnic and Fireworks Show.  Thanks to the generosity of this year’s title sponsor Windstream, as well as other significant fireworks donors including 3M Corporation, Bob’s Tire Service, and others recognized below, this annual early fourth of July celebration will feature headlining band the Whiskey Kings, fronted by WKYC’s Monica Robins, introduced by Elyria’s very own E.T. King and the Determination.

Events will be announced from the Windstream Stage beginning at 4:00pm when West Park will open complete with food vendors for your picnicking pleasure. Vendors will include Hershey’s Ice Cream ‘n More, Marco’s Pizza, By the Slab Catering, Lorenzo’s Pizzeria, and other traditional carnival fare from both Goldstar Food Service and Island Delights.  Beginning at 7:00pm the Elyria Parks and Recreation staff will provide family games, and at 7:15pm the live music will begin and continue until dusk. This marks the first year that Windstream will be presenting the Fireworks Show in Elyria.

“We are thrilled to be participating in this year’s Great American Picnic and Fireworks Show,” said Brian Harman, Windstream President of Operations in Ohio. “Each year, this show brings together all of Elyria for a night of festivities, and Windstream is proud to support the community’s celebration of tradition and heritage.”

 Opening remarks and sponsor and donor recognition will begin at dusk, followed by the presenting of the Colors by Elyria veterans groups, the Pledge of Allegiance by US Army veteran Terry Stone, and the singing of the Star Spangled banner by Tim Deery.   A dazzling, 25-minute fireworks show by American Fireworks will follow, complete with choreographed music.  Upon completion of the show, the City will institute a city-wide curfew beginning at 11:45pm.

Because of limited parking, residents are encouraged to carpool. Handicap parking will be available.  Enter the Central West Park parking lot via the Foster Avenue entrance.  An official handicap parking identification tag will be required.  For safety purposes, parking on some streets will be restricted on portions of both sides of Clemens, Oakwood, Penfield, Lowell, Foster, and Spruce.  Only residential traffic will be permitted on Seneca and Rockfern.

For safety purposes, the following items are strictly prohibited in the park: animals (except service dogs), fireworks or sparklers, throwing or battling toys, skateboards or online skates, bicycles, laser pointers, alcohol, illegal drugs, tents, large golf umbrellas or flags on poles. All items brought into the park are subject to inspection.

Wound Care Awareness Week is June 6-10, 2016

University Hospitals Elyria Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center:
Mayor Promotes Healing Wounds and Improving Lives
 

The third annual Wound Care Awareness Week (June 6-10, 2016) was recognized on Wednesday when Elyria Mayor Holly Brinda visited University Hospitals Elyria Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. Mayor Brinda presented a proclamation to Keith Warner, MD, Medical Director of the center, who was joined by Charlotte Wray, President, UH Elyria Medical Center; Don Schiffbauer, Director of Clinical Operations, UH Elyria Medical Center; and members of the facility’s staff.

More than six million Americans suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds. When other treatments are unsuccessful, patients may not realize that specialized wound care is available right here in their community. Wound Care Awareness Week helps draw attention to this significant health issue and provides information that can assist patients with finding the care they need. Patients of UH Elyria Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center typically have a sore or wound that is not significantly better within a month, or healed entirely within two months.

Located at 133 E. Broad Street in Elyria, UH Elyria Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds. Advanced treatments include hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

The Elyria facility features two state-of-the-art hyperbaric oxygen chambers, outfitted with flat screen TVs and premium sound systems for patient enjoyment during treatments.  A third chamber is scheduled to be installed later this year. Whether they prefer to watch television, a DVD, or listen to a CD, patients can relax in the chamber while 100 percent oxygen speeds the healing of their wounds. Patients will also find flat screen televisions in each of the six treatment rooms located on-site.


UH Elyria Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center – along with its sister facility, UH Westlake Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center – are both partnerships between UH Elyria Medical Center and Healogics™ - the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Both centers are recipients of the Center of Distinction Award by Healogics, as well as the prestigious Robert A. Warriner III, MD, Center of Excellence Award. This recognition is a result of the facilities both achieving patient satisfaction rates higher than 95 percent and a healing rate of at least 98 percent in less than 28 median days, for a minimum of two years.

Morning Coffee with the Mayor - May 26, 2016 @ 9am!

NEXT MORNING COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR: Thursday, May 26, 2016 - 9:00-10:00am in Midway Mall food court.

Please join me for my monthly MORNING COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR, held the last Thursday of each month from 9:00am-10:00am in the Midway Mall food court.  I will be in the food court Thursday morning for informal discussions, questions, or just to talk.  I encourage any and all residents to join me for a cup of coffee and to discuss whatever is on their mind. Your concerns are my concerns, and this is a great opportunity to make them heard.

We know this is early for a lot of residents with standard work schedules, so while Morning Coffee with the mayor caters to the needs of those who are retired or work alternative shifts, we will continue to hold MAYOR'S NIGHT IN at Elyria City Hall from 5:30-6:30pm in the Third Floor Conference room of Elyria City Hall on the first Monday of every month.
