Elyria Apple Festival - September 21-23, 2018!

The backdrop of Elyria’s historic downtown and Ely Square will offer this year’s Apple Festival crowd a fresh canvas.  New lighting, new crosswalks, new roads, a revitalized Lorain County Courthouse, a new arts scene, a new restaurant and more will add to the festive and family-friendly atmosphere.

Now in its 38th year, and thanks to the efforts of many, this year’s Apple Festival once again promises to be one of Ohio’s premiere autumn events.  There is something for everyone, so bring friends and family and enjoy all that Ohio’s 14th largest city has to offer.

You’ll find dozens of concessions, craft shopping, live entertainment, a 5K run and fun walk, a corn hole competition, the Chemical Bank Antique Car Show, the Princess Pageant, an art show, children’s activities, an apple pie baking contest, and more.  For details look for the schedule in the special Apple Festival tab of the Chronicle Telegram, or go to www.elyriaapplefestival.com

And while you are in the downtown area, don’t forget to check out our magnificent waterfalls off of Kerstetter Way; the Blank Slate community art and music venue; the new Foundry Kitchen and Bar; Pioneer Plaza complete with outdoor musical instruments; the Elyria Arts Council’s Artworks Gallery and more.   In all, there is over $38 million of reinvestment happening in our downtown area alone, and over $400 million of reinvestment city-wide.

Special thanks are extended to the very hard-working volunteers who comprise the Apple Festival Committee, including Coordinator Linda Brown; as well as the Apple Festival Board, supporting Century Club contributors, vendors, sponsors and various city departments.  Their support, and your patronage, promises to make the 2018 Apple Festival an event to remember.

Resident Shred Day - September 29, 2018

Resident Shred Day is Saturday, September 29th, 2018 from 9:00am to noon behind Elyria City Hall (131 Court Street, Elyria). Lorain County residents may bring up to five bags (grocery sized) or boxes of personal documents for shredding (paper only – no folders).

The event will be held behind Elyria City Hall in the parking lot off of 2nd Street.  Signs will be posted in the parking lot - please follow the route and remain in your car at all times.  We will have helpers on hand to unload the documents and have them shredded while you watch.

This service is for Lorain County residents only and does not include businesses or business documents. Participants may be asked for proof of residency.

We would like to express our thanks to the Lorain County Commissioners for providing one of the shredding trucks.

If you have any questions, please call the Safety Service Office at 440-326-1404.
