Please join us tonight, Thursday, March 23rd @ 6:00pm at Northwood School on Gulf Rd. for a conversation with Elyria Mayor Holly C. Brinda and her staff!  They will be there to answer all your questions and tell you more about how the City is run.  Reservations are NOT required!

Bicentennial Postage Cancellations Are Available!


Thanks to the help of the Bicentennial Committee (and the diligent efforts of committee member Charlie Delgado), the City of Elyria Bicentennial Commemorative Postage Cancellation is available at the Elyria Post Office!  Those interested in getting a piece of Elyrian History must bring a stamped envelope into the Post Office and tell the clerk that they would like a Bicentennial Postage Cancellation.  There is no charge and you can get as many cancellations as you'd like.  The cancellation will be available from Friday, March 17, 2017 through Saturday, April 15, 2017.

Founder's Day Ceremony to Kick Off Elyria Bicentennial - March 18, 2017!

The City of Elyria begins celebrating its 200th birthday this Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 11:00am near the intersection of East Bridge Street and Broad Street!  The Lorain County Historical Society and the Elyria Bicentennial Committee will hold a ceremony near the dental offices of Dr. Richard Fogel, including insights from local speakers and the unveiling of an historical marker on the site where Heman Ely and his traveling party of five adventurous pioneers first set foot on Elyria soil in 1817.  The dedication is FREE and open to the public. A program by LCHS Education Coordinator Janet Bird entitled "Spotlight on Elyria" will follow at the Lorain County History Center at 284 Washington Avenue.
