A SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS, A CASTING CALL TO ALL ELYRIANS, AND CLICK IT OR TICKET!

Talk about an all American City - despite the cool weather and threat of rain Elyrians showed up by the thousands to honor our veterans and participate in or view our Memorial Day service and parade.  I hope you enjoy the slide show that follows, as it is a true testimony to our community’s patriotic values and citizen participation. And as a side note, thank you to the Friendship APL for joining us in the parade...

Virginia is just one of many dogs
looking for a good home in Elyria.
You’ll be happy to know that as a result, Myrtle the beagle was adopted the same day and Virginia, the lab-mix has a number of serious potential owner inquiries.  Please spay or neuter your pet and adopt whenever possible, as the City of Elyria has so very many animals in need of your help.

And speaking of citizen participation, you have an opportunity to become a video star on the City’s website and on Cable Channel 12.  We are looking for volunteer citizen “actors” to work with us to produce mini videos that explain our new Sort 4 Elyria recycling program.

A grant secured from Lorain County Solid Waste is helping us spread the word about how to properly process your refuse.  If you want to be part of the casting call and use your star power to inform your fellow citizens about how to Sort 4 Elyria – call Carrie at 326-1402 or Scott at 326-1416.  Auditions will be June 3 from 1:00 – 7:00pm at Elyria City Hall.  On the day of the audition you will be provided a script and will be asked to perform in front of a live audience.  Good luck to all who apply!

And finally, the City of Elyria wants you to buckle up!  As part of a federal traffic safety funding grant for $44,977.38 the Elyria Police Department will be conducting blitz patrols through June 2 to make sure you are buckling up as part of a national Click It or Ticket campaign.  The focus will be on SR 57, SR 113, SR 301 (N. Abbe Rd.), US 20 (Cleveland St.), Lake Ave., and E. Broad Street.  Enforcement efforts will emphasize the following violations: Operating Vehicles Intoxicated (OVI), Driving Under Suspension (DUS), Speed and Seat Belt Restraint Use, with a special focus on seat belts.
