Today’s Topics: Emergency Home Repairs & Street Resurfacing


If you or someone you know is in need of emergency home repair, you may want to check out the City of Elyria’s Emergency Home Repair Program. Funded by HUD through the Community Development Block Grant Program, the City is offering grants up to $10,000 to Elyria residents to repair (1) inoperable and/or unsafe furnaces and hot water tanks, and (2) ADA Accessibility Projects for individuals with disabilities or handicaps.



Applications are being accepted now through July 19, 2013 on a first come, first serve basis. Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • A house must be a single family dwelling located within the City of Elyria
  • The applicant must be the owner of the home, must live in the home as a primary permanent residence and have working utilities
  • The applicant must provide proof of home ownership, active home insurance and paid property taxes
  • Total household income must be at or below 50% of the area median income – income documentation is required

And speaking of repairs, you will be happy to know that Elyria City Council adopted its 2013 Street Repair Program list this week that includes the following streets:
  • Cambridge Avenue from Prospect Street to Garford Avenue
  • Colgate Avenue from Park Avenue to University Avenue
  • Canterbury Court from Whitman Boulevard to cul-de-sac
  • Canterbury Court from Windsor Drive to Whitman Boulevard
  • Crestview Drive (asphalt portion only)
  • Fourth Street from Middle Avenue to West Avenue
  • Chadwick Drive
  • Lowell Street from Huron Street past Penfield
  • Beebe Avenue from Poplar to cul-de-sac
  • Bennett Drive east of Georgetown
  • West River Road – Griswold to 57 joint sealing
  • Underwater bridge inspection services
  • Intersection safety improvements (crosswalks& signals) as funds are available
