NOTICE FROM MAYOR’S OFFICE:
ELYRIA WATER QUALITY UPDATE –
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 AT 10:40AM
There is
some sediment in Elyria’s water supply this morning, but the Ohio EPA has
deemed it safe to drink and use for other purposes. The water plant on Lake Erie did not fail –
but, a surge valve in the City’s water distribution system that relieves
pressure in the system opened properly and then did not close properly. The end result was that it stirred up some
sediment in a finished water tank. Data
has been provided to the EPA and it has been determined that the water does
meet water quality standards. The City
is flushing the water distribution system to clear out the sediment. If you see sediment or discolored water you
are advised to let your cold water run for several minutes until the water
becomes clear.
