Elyria Fireworks Schedule and Instructions

FIREWORKS SCHEDULE & INSTRUCTIONS


Agenda

  • 4:00pm:  West Park Opens to the Public
  • 4:30pm:  Picnic Begins/Concession Stand/ Food Vendors Open (see list)
  • 5:00pm:  General Public parking at West Park South Parking Lot opens (see other options described below)
  • 6:00 – 7:45pm:  Elyria Parks & Recreation Staff provide family games, activities, face painting and more
  • 8:00 – 9:30pm:  Live Entertainment by Yellow Delicious 
  • 9:30 – 9:45pm:  Mayor Holly Brinda: Welcome, Introduction of Presenting Sponsors  9:45 – 9:50pm:  Presenting of the Colors, American Legion Post 12; Pledge of Allegiance
  • 9:50pm:  Star Spangled Banner 
  • 9:55pm:  Parks & Recreation Director Frank Gustoff greeting/Fireworks begin
  • 10:30pm:  Fireworks end
  • 11:45pm:  Curfew begins 

Parking Instructions
Please Carpool:  While the City and area businesses and organizations are working hard to create parking for this event, (see list of free parking below) there will still be a limited number of parking spots available.  

Parking Prohibited:  For safety purposes, parking on the streets will be limited so please pay attention to posted signage.  Parking will not be permitted on: Penfield from Lowell Street to Foster Avenue; Foster Avenue from Woodland Avenue to the entrance to West Park; and Oakwood Street from Penfield Avenue to Clemens Avenue.   

Residential Traffic:  Only residential traffic will be permitted on Penfield, Rockfern and Seneca avenues. 

General Public Parking:  West Park South Parking Lot: limited general parking will be  available on a first come, first serve basis beginning at 5:00pm.  Enter the south parking lot via the west drive off Lowell Street.  The east entrance will be blocked off for pedestrian traffic. 

Handicap Parking: Enter the Central West Park Parking Lot via the Foster Avenue entrance.  An official Handicap Parking Identification Tag will be required to gain access.    

Other Available Free Parking:  Thank you to the following businesses/organizations for allowing event parking at no cost. (Please note, all parking is at your own risk.  Neither the city nor the owner of the lot/property assumes any responsibility for you or your passengers, your vehicle or your belongings.  Parking spots will be available at the close of business for each location; time will vary by organization/business.) Free parking is available at: Kennedy’s Cycle, 1019 Lowell Street; former Bank Building, 1000 Lowell Street; Matt-A-Mattic, 810 Lowell Street; Plasto-Tech, 708 Lowell Street; Original Glorious Apostolic Church, 616 Foster Avenue; Thomas Jefferson School, 616 Foster Avenue; Leggitt & Platt, grass lot at corner of Lowell Street and Woodland Avenue; Lowell Street Baptist Church, 642 Lowell Street; and the vacant city grass lot, northside of Lowell Street between Waverly Street and West Park Recycling.  Other locations may charge for parking or ask for donations. 

Adjusted Traffic Patterns:  Exit traffic from the park will be directed east on Foster Avenue to Lake Avenue. Turning north on Penfield and Woodland as well as turning south on Penfield, Rockfern, Seneca and Woodland avenues will be prohibited.  Motorists will also be prohibited from traveling south on Penfield and Woodland from Spruce St to Foster Ave.  West of the east Lowell Street entrance to the West Recreation South Parking Lot, motorists will be directed west on Lowell Street. East of the east Lowell St entrance to the West Recreation South Parking Lot, motorists will be directed east on Lowell Street to Lake Avenue. Turning north on Penfield, Rockfern, Seneca and Woodland avenues from Lowell St. will be prohibited.  West bound traffic on Foster Avenue and Lowell St (from Lake to Penfield) will be prohibited until after traffic has been cleared from the areas immediately surrounding the park.

Park Rules for the Fireworks
You may bring into the park: blankets and beach towels, tarps, lawn chairs, personal-size umbrellas, cameras, cell phones, binoculars, sealed water bottles, baby strollers, wagons, food, flashlight, bug repellent, coolers.  All items brought into the park are subject to city inspection.  

The following items are strictly prohibited: fireworks or sparklers; play pens; throwing or batting toys; skateboards or inline skates; bicycles; laser pointers; alcohol; weapons; illegal drugs; tents; large golf umbrellas or flags; animals (except service dogs). 

Park Etiquette
Please, be thoughtful when setting up lawn chairs that you try not to block others’ views; try not to smoke cigarettes in close proximity to others – especially children; be thoughtful while navigating through crowds to insure the safety of those who may be unsteady on their feet or those transporting children in strollers or wagons.      

Food Vendors
For your dining pleasure, the following LOCAL vendors who will be inspected and approved by the Elyria Health Department, will be providing food: CoFields Barbeque, Marcos Pizza, Donna’s Diner, Sambinos Pizza, By The Slab, and Hershey’s Ice Cream.     

Curfew
For safety and security reasons, the City of Elyria will be enforcing an 11:30pm city-wide curfew to encourage citizens to leave West Park and the neighborhood immediately after the fireworks show.
