Dear Elyrians,
The
last time our community experienced a fireworks display was 2008. With your help, we would like to return
fireworks this year to the City of Elyria.
In
the past, this family-friendly activity drew over 30,000 people. This once annual event became a tradition
that brought people together from our diverse neighborhoods and provided
opportunities to celebrate our country and our community’s pride, patriotism
and freedom while creating lasting memories and an economic benefit to the
local economy.
For
all these reasons and more, I am asking you to participate in bringing this
important community tradition back to life.
If we can raise $60,000 fromprivate and corporate donations before May 15, the City of Elyria, along withour corporate and individual partners, will sponsor a fireworks display on July2, with a rain date of July 3, at West Park Recreation Center – 1200 FosterAvenue.
These
non-holiday dates have been chosen to prevent the City from having to pay
overtime for safety forces that are a necessity to make this event possible. If you make a donation and we don’t reach our
goal – we will save your donation for fireworks until we do reach our
goal. But, with your help, I think we
are going to reach our goal this year!
Because of the City’s tight budget, the only way we can sponsor a
fireworks display is with private donations.
To
make this day even more special, we will create a safe, festival atmosphere beginning
at 4:00pm that will include concessions from local vendors and restaurants;
games, activities, super heroes and give-aways for children; music for all ages
– and more! Special tented sections will
be roped off for senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and
corporations and organizations that would like to take advantage of the time to
host their annual picnics.
Please consider
making a donation to the 2014 City of Elyria Fireworks Fund. Any donation is needed and appreciated and is
tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Donations can be made by credit card on a secure server via the city’s website at www.cityofelyria.org. You can also respond
by mailing a check with a fireworks notation on the bottom and/or completing
this form. Checks
should be made payable to: City of Elyria – Fireworks Fund, Attention Mayor Holly Brinda – Elyria City
Hall, 131 Court Street, Suite 301 – Elyria, Ohio 44035.
Thank
you in advance for your consideration.
With your support, we can return another great tradition to our
deserving Elyria community. If you have
questions or comments, please feel free to contact me at (440) 326-1402.
Sincerely,
Holly
