Dear Elyrians,
You really out-did yourselves this time! The can-do spirit of our residents, businesses, and organizations is being featured in the national spotlight this week as USA Today and CNN featured the city’s grassroots efforts to bring back fireworks with philanthropic contributions. And while the story made national news twice, thousands of us spent Wednesday evening celebrating Independence Day early at Elyria’s Salute to America: The Great American Picnic and Fireworks Show at West Park.
The evening
featured family games and activities, the bands E’Lete and Yellow Delicious, fantastic
foods from local vendors, and a 30-minute star-spangled spectacular fireworks
show thanks to Presenting Sponsors United Initiators and Bendix Commercial
Vehicle Systems with support from 3M Corporation, Bob’s Tire Service, The
Chronicle Telegram and many more (go to www.cityofelyria.org to view complete donor
list).
For your
viewing pleasure we are attaching photographs of the many special moments for
Elyria children, families and adults. My
most sincere appreciation is extended to the hundreds of people and
organizations that helped bring this celebration back to life through their
generous contributions and volunteerism – and to the many city employees that
worked tirelessly to create a safe and enjoyable experience for all. This truly is Americana at its best and it
makes me so very proud, humbled and honored to be your Mayor.
In gratitude,
Holly C.
